What is PGDM?
PGDM Stands for Post Graduate Diploma in Management. PGDM programme recognized and approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) that focuses on providing practical knowledge of management. And PGDM is a two year professional diploma course that provides students with all detailed knowledge about industry standards.
Why PGDM?
The PGDM program is an extremely popular education option.The perfect thing about a PGDM degree is that it can get you very high salaries, especially if you are from a reputed business school. A PGDM degree can take you places and also allow you to grow vertically to the top position in a business organisation. PGDM admission is mostly based on entrance exams like MAT, CAT, XAT, and more exams.
When to do PGDM?
PGDM Courses are made to upgrade the skills and meet the requirements of the industry by providing practical approaches. The right time to do a PGDM course depends on the individual.
A PGDM course after completion of graduation will not be as fruitful as a few years of experience. Major companies need 3-4 years of work experience and relevant skills to earn that hefty salary and for a managerial level job.
What is required for a PGDM Course?

Types of PGDM course
There are 3 types of PGDM courses. Students can choose any one of these courses according to their convenience and budget –
- Full time PGDM
- Distance PGDM
- Online PGDM
1. Full time PGDM course
This is a 2 year course. You have to go to college everyday to do this. Its fees are much higher than distance and online PGDM. Top PGDM entrance exams include CAT, MAT, XAT, SNAP, NMAT, GMAT etc. Full time PGDM fees are around 4-24 LPA.
2. Distance PGDM course
Distance PGDM is a best and good option for the person who is doing a job and still wants to study PGDM. The lowest cost of buying books saves money that may help a person elsewhere. To get admission in distance PGDM, entrance exams has to be given and the fee for course ranges from 30,000 to 50,000/-
3. Online PGDM
It is a convenient way to pursue a PGDM course for those who run a hectic schedule at work and cannot allocate time separately. Admission is done on the basis of merit in online PGDM. You can do this sitting at home. Online PGDM fees are around 10,000 to 15,000/-
Entrance exam for PGDM
To take admission in a PGDM course in most of the colleges, you have to give an entrance exam-
- CAT
- MAT
- CMAT
- GMAT
- NMAT
- ATMA
- XAT
CAT (Common Admission Test) and MAT (Management Aptitude Test) have been given importance in most of the colleges in India.
PGDM Syllabus
Different institutes have different PGDM syllabus. Still, if we talk about most colleges, then in the PGDM course, the student will get to see two types of subjects.

- Elective Subjects
Core subjects
Core Subjects are compulsory subjects which the student cannot choose on his own. The list of Core Subjects in PGDM course in most of the colleges of India is as follows –

Elective Subject
Every year the student has to choose 2 Elective Subjects of his own free will i.e. in 2 years a total of 4 Elective Subjects have to be studied. Keeping in mind his interest and in which field he wants to work in future, the student chooses Elective Subjects.
