How City Completed the Treble
Champions League final
Manchester City completed the treble after defeating Inter Milan in the Champions League final with a scoreline of 1-0. Rodri scored in the sixty-eighth minute and then the City defenders managed to hold back the Inter’s attackers to secure the 1-0 scoreline. Pep Guardiola would be relieved as he won the only trophy that eluded him during his tenure at Man City. It seems like Pep just needed a proper striker to complete the puzzle in Erling Braut Halland as he scored an astonishing number of goals throughout the season and seems the only other player that can challenge Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’Or. He was the top scorer in the Premier League and Champions League. Manchester City joined their cross-town rivals, Manchester United to be the only two sides in England to win the treble.

FA cup
In the third round of the FA Cup City faced Chelsea and it was expected to be a close game but Chelsea was defeated 4-0. Chelsea had an underwhelming season, so it was no surprise that City won quite comfortably. Next up, they faced the Premier League leaders at that time, Arsenal. Arsenal had a few players injured at that time and City took advantage of that as they narrowly won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Nathan Ake. The Quarterfinal was against Kompany’s Burnley, the winners of the EFL championship and they got a beating. Halland scored a hattrick and the score finished 6-0. In the semi-final, it was the Riyad Mahrez show as his hat trick against Sheffield United propelled City into the final of the FA where they faced Eric Ten Hag’s men. The man of the big moments, Gundogan scored just twelve seconds into the game. What a volley it was from a pass from De Bruyne, right into the top-right corner. United came back after a penalty from Bruno Fernandez but Gundogan again spoiled their FA Cup dreams. Scoring a volley again, although not as pleasing as the last one, but it did the job as they hung on to win the FA Cup 2-1. It was the first-ever major final between City and United and City came out on top. Mahrez was their main hero in the FA Cup.

Premier League
Arsenal bottled the Premier League in the final few games, and City took advantage of that. They were on top of the table for 248 days but still came second behind City who capitalized on their collapse. Holland and De Bruyne finished top of the goals and assists charts respectively. It was Pep’s third Premier League in a row and fifth in six seasons.
Manchester City has been dominating the English football scene and now has won the UCL too. It does not look like they will stop anytime soon. Pep becomes the only manager to do the treble twice, that too for two different teams and in two different countries.
