My primary vehicle is currently watercolor. But I don’t think of watercolor because I’m not a purist, occasionally using Gouache. I’ve never lost my love for design, so I still fill the sketchbooks. My first photos were illustrative, influenced by my work in the graphic profession. For a short time, I experienced abstraction. Now I made more personal statements about things that make me a special meaning. That’s why I got so often on the secondary roads in the city center in the city center, where I grew up.

Once a week, you am a hiking group to go one of the many hiking trails in the county of Iowa, where I live. Two September, when I had taken my camera, I took a quick photo when I crossed a bridge over this stream. When I looked at all the images they had collected during the excursion, I was exceptionally pulled in the rich watercolors and the possibilities of composition. The light blue sky reflection was such an exciting contrast with deep blue shadows and warm thoughts of fall trees. The painting of water with reflective shapes closely observes what I find a nice challenge. I like working with images that strongly contrast values, textures, edges, and colors.

2021 1st place landscape winner

I painted many of the narrow streets in my hometown and the ones I saw in the old cities of Italy. These streets are expressive – full of character and potential. This painting is one of the series, exploring the shadow navigated as the emblem of local culture and an organic element of the road image. Although my typical choice of format for these scenes is portrayed, I had so much time to paint during the pandemics that I was challenged to try a square.

In my work, I try that ordinary things appear unusual and beautiful. In the beginning, I became how light and shadow play around the figure and how the diagonals of the sails break horizontally and vertically of buildings, creating a feeling of dynamic harmony. The quadratic format eventually helped achieve a new impression of the topic.
